History & Mission

The Theosophical Society

Founded in 1875, the Theosophical Society (TS) is a worldwide body whose primary object is Universal Brotherhood without distinction, based on the realization that life, and all its diverse forms, human and non-human, is indivisibly One. The Society imposes no belief on its members, who are united by a common search for Truth and desire to learn the meaning and purpose of existence through study, reflection, self-responsibility and loving service.

The World Federation of Young Theosophists

In 1923 the World Federation of Young Theosophists (WFYT) was formed to organize activities by young TS members and for the young. The Federation was then envisioned as a parallel movement from its parent Society, where the young would link together, so that young newcomers who expressed interest in the Theosophical work could connect among their age group and join the youth initiatives. Since 1999 the Federation remained dormant for two decades. In 2020 a group of young theosophists, inspired by past initiatives, started to work towards the revival and strengthening of the Theosophical Movement at present among young members throughout the world. The federation headquarters is the Theosophical Society (Adyar, India).
